Hundreds of thousands of homeless dogs and cats roam the streets of Romania struggling to find food and shelter. Several are injured and struck by vehicles like Otti or mistreated by cruel people who view them as a nuisance like poor Alice.
Stray animal populations are a huge animal welfare concern in Romania and one they are struggling to manage. Several organizations are stepping up to help spay, neuter, and treat the homeless animals but are overwhelmed by the number of animals in need of medical care.
SACHE Foundation is a low-cost veterinary clinic and animal rehabilitation facility that takes in injured animals from the street and help them recover and find homes. They are also educating people about how to help and the importance of neutering pets.
They receive calls daily about animals in need and do their best to help as many as possible. They reached out to Greater Good Charities’ Emergency Animal Medical Fund for help with medical bills. Meet two dogs that arrived with life-threatening wounds that need your support to heal.
Alice
Alice was shot multiple times with one bullet piercing her heart and another breaking her femur. She was rushed to the clinic in critical condition.
The sweet pup underwent emergency surgery to remove the bullets and tend to her wounds. She is receiving antibiotics and remains strong despite the trauma and pain she has endured.
She was the victim of a senseless act of violence and deserves a chance to find a loving home. Help us raise $6,000 to get Alice the additional surgery she needs to heal from her injuries and to cover her ongoing care.
Otti
The foundation received a heartbreaking video of a dog in excruciating pain turning in circles after being struck by a car and left to suffer in a ditch.
Rescuers rushed to his aid and brought him back to the clinic where he is receiving pain medication to make him more comfortable.
He is unable to stand or walk and X-rays show that he has multiple fractures to his spine. While he may need a wheelchair to walk again, his best option is surgery.
After enduring so much pain, he is slowly trusting his caretakers. Initially he snapped at them due to the intense pain he was in. Now, he understands they are helping him and enjoys their attention.
Otti’s rescuers are determined to help him heal but need our help.
We are hoping to raise $6,000 to help cover his medical expenses and support his recovery.
Pets receiving critical care facilitated by an Emergency Animal Medical grant may not be eligible for adoption until they have completed their course of treatment. If you would like to inquire about adoption of a specific animal, we strongly encourage you to visit the shelter’s specific website first as that is often the most up to date place to learn about available pets and review the adoption policies and process. Check out the shelter’s website to see all adoptable pets.
Your gift will not only give them the hope to keep fighting, but your donations will help cover their ongoing care. Together, we CAN change the world.
